Great analysis of this brilliant new offering from PJ Harvey. I initially was taken aback by the stripped-down moroseness of the cd,yet I kept coming back to it and have become enthralled with various tracks on different days. Today, it was Silence, and I am utterly enchanted. I wish I didn’t feel that I keenly understand what she’s singing about. The gloom here is limned with melodies and instrumentation that are unsurpassably lovely, and the effect is profound.
