USOUNDS welcomes Pierre Charbonneau with reviews direct from the French dance underground

Scannerfunk - Spinique (Sulphur) 12" vinyl

Nobody was expecting Robin Rimbaud, king of abstract minimal sounds under the name Scanner, to go into an unknown "dancefloor" territory...

But it's real, and it works! Spinique, track taken from the album Wave of Light by Wave of Light is an intense techno trance excursion with a powerful harmony. Finally, the original Scanner experimental sound is not too far! A good house mix by label friend Michael Wells (GTO) and a melodic retake by Simon Fisher Turner on side B close this unusual release...

You might also want to check the "Hypnotic Panda" video clip, thanks to Dfuse. Don't listen those who claim that Robin Rimbaud has gone mad and betrays his past work... If he is talented enough to go into different musical aspects, why would he be blamed?

INFOBOT: Scanerfunks' first US release will be March 6

Precision Cuts - Thriller/Dancefloor (Octagon UK) 12" vinyl

This band has the right name! Precision cuts all over this release with on side A Thriller (inspired by the Michael Jackson tune), which is a progressive beats monster! Side B is Dancefloor, an 80's electro breaks orientated sound, with a hint of funk. Both tracks are clear and positive, which means that they are essential for your breaks collection! Nothing more to add, go and get it!

Cabin Fever - Bubblin Up (Pig Life Records) 12" vinyl

Who said that nu skool breaks come from UK only? Take for example Cabin Fever from France, which does with incredible ease one of the best funky breaks around! Side B and deep house-based tracks Scene of the Crime and My Impalpable Self are good attempts of downtempo flavoured beats... But what a side A! Bubblin Up is a French Touch tune like it should always be... Great samples, great vibes, and a touch of humor are the components of this addictive track. A great record!

Pope of Gegga - Barbaskön (Baluns Records Sweden) 12" vinyl

Coming up from Swedish label Baluns, Erik Berglund aka Pope of Gegga is delivering here a solid record! Side A is Barbaskön, techno trance track with a dubby feeling. Side B is Prippop (Dirt mix), more into the techno house dance side. The music attitude is a little bit classic but it remains a high quality best buy for all the rave fans out there! Check out the Baluns forthcoming releases, with more Pope of Gegga beats to come...

INFOBOT: Baluns Records is a Swedish label, and they have soundclips for this artist

Zongamin - Serious Trouble (Flesh Records) 12" vinyl One of the first artists to be released on Flesh Records, created by Mike Silver from Sonovac/Soft Verge fame is Zongamin, which seems to be at first sight an indie rock band... But not really! Serious trouble, best value of this record, is a perfectly paced electro beats track full of scratches, samples and guitars for a sophisticated groovy result. Zongamin music mood goes then on to electronica (track called Kazak) to close side A... Side B starts with Original Trouble, sort of noisy demo of Serious Trouble and finishes with Blind Holiday, an ambient song! Weird, isn't it? Neverless, it is a good creative surprise, even though the Flesh Records dark design (check the artwork included on the 12", or their web site) will not be pleasent for all... Go for the music!
