Computor Rockers - Green Screen ep (Breakin' Records)

On Breakin' Records (home of Bass Junkie, Kitbuilders, Ceefax and others) comes a pure electro beats release from label headmaster Edmx - better known for his DMX Krew hits on Rephlex Records - this time under the Computor Rockers disguise... 6 tracks on this Green Screen 12" ep which goes from hypnotic beatbox loops (Computor Science) to mini amiga video game soundtracks (Level Select, Lunar Attack). Best track remains the friendly Green Screen, filled with cool female voice interaction and solid beats. This is the real "back to the futur" electronic sound of the web, a must have for all demoscene/netlabels fans around. Watch out also for new Breakin' records megamix including Dmx Krew latest track "Night Visions".

Stabilizer - What it Takes (Plastic Raygun)

For those who are curious about the "nu skool" sounds, here is a starting point! Stabilizer (aka Stef Goodchild) has become one of the most sought after breaks artist around. His work is full of efficient remixes and recent ep's with original compositions have given stef a top ranking seat. Proof is on this neat "What it Takes" 12" release on the Phantom Beats label Plastic Raygun... There is a "funk" side for the late nu skool comers, and a "breaks" side for the die-hard breaks fans. Even though the result is somehow a bit deja-vu, this record is surely the very first to anticipate a (needed) crossover between a "closed circuit" nu skool scene and a mainstream audience. A sure shot.

Sonic Insomniac - Sonic Insomniac ep (New Religion/Regal)

Hard to define the sound coming on this new release from Sonic Insomniac... Yes this could leave you out of sleep! Strange mixture of ambient, trance, repetitive beats, dub and sample collage, this band does take all rythmic freedoms to take you out somewhere... but where? 3 tracks here, on side a you'll find a soft techno percussive journey under name "You Are", while side b starts with the deep house-like short beats of "Toby's View" to continue with the trance (almost industrial) never ending beats of track "Move". Far too experimental for someone who is looking for a more "easy listening" option, but a good (risky) option for those always on the run for innovating music trips. Worth the try.

Dillon Street Rangers - Black & Fuzzy ep (Thunk Recordings)

Head of Australian label Thunk Recordings, Brett Mitchell is also known for his previous bands, dance charts act Boxcar and the tech house beats of Earthlink (Deviant records). Here, under the clever name of Dillon Street Rangers, Brett delivers a dancefloor killer ep. Side b is deep tech track "George loses his Triangle"... but wait for side a! Addictive track "George goes to Kansas" (one of the best tunes of this year) is great thanks to the progressive house beats involved, original digeridoo/vocoder-like voice, not to mention the percussions arriving right on time... Check out more from this label soon (by the way Thunk has just been nominated best label at the australian dance music awards!)

Red Dragon - Sock it to 'em (Alien Funk Movement)

Fresh beats now thanks to Red Dragon! This band is a side project from Gareth Oxby of Tribalation fame (releases on Loaded records). Going from electro to house to breaks, Gareth takes us here on a journey through different styles: side b starts with a chill out house under name... "Houze". Then followed by a tasty ambient electro track called... "Elexfux". Side a track name gives no clue about the tempo involved, but believe us, hear it is adopt it! The impressive "Sock it to 'em", best track of this release, is something like a crossing between tech house, downtempo, funk, dub and old skool 4/4 flavours... Give a try also to the latest Tribalation release "Need to Move/Skywalking" on Loaded.
