The Dears on Tour

One of the greatest live bands in this solar system are gonna be back on the road very soon. (Actually, there’s always some cool shit going down on PSR 0329+54 Beta Pictoris which is actually in a different solar system. When there are clouds of gas occultating around from the debris left over from planetary formation, that always makes for an aesthetically kick-ass show.) Check out a full Dears concert from last year in Amsterdam here.

More tour dates on the way soon:
June 25 – London – Wireless Festival
June 26 – London – ICA

ABC Concert Review and Photos by Famed Rock Photog Julz Finley

I hadn’t been to a show in a few months, pretty much because the very few shows that came through town either totally sucked or I got to the venue and there was no place to park. With that said I flipped through the local arts paper and saw that ABC would be playing at The House of Blues, and it was a Friday night nonetheless. Perfect! Now, is this the same ABC I was thinking of? The one with the swank Martin Fry and his gold suit who sung “Poison Arrow”… or was it the other ABC (aka Another Bad Creation) the one with the little kids who were rapping about some girl named “Iesha”. Or… was it some other band that didn’t realize there were already 2 bands called ABC, and named themselves that who were some local act that does Dave Matthews/Creed cover songs? Well… THANK GOD it was my initial guess! The ABC I went to see was the one with Martin Fry, but to be honest, I am not sure how many other original members were present. I didn’t really care, as long as Martin Fry was there!

Zero 7 The Garden by Brandon Horn

Zero 7. I remember them. Over the past five years, they’ve edged their way into various pop culture spots, perhaps most significantly the Garden State soundtrack, as well as television shows like Sex and the City and Six Feet Under. Their downtempo sound has always seemed intermittently appealing, but a little lacking, relying more on cheery optimism than substance. After mulling over their new record, I am quite satisfied with my initial gestalt.

The album starts off with Futures, an oh-so-exhilarating track that makes you want to off yourself. Only not in a good way.

Art Brut MP3

London’s wacky band, Art Brut were named after French painter Jean Debuffet’s definition of outsider art. “Art by prisoners, loners, the mentally ill, and other marginalized people, and made without thought to imitation or presentation.” That sounds about right. Here’s an Art Brut (aka: some of the best named rockstars in the world: Eddie Argos, Chris Chinchilla, Ian Catskilkin, Frederica Feedback and Mike) track called “Good Weekend”. Check it on Real or Windows.

Dr Octagon Decipher Series Part 7

OCD International HQ

Rob Sonic sat around the OCD HQ with a cup of coffee in front of him, As he slowly poured a healthy serving of whiskey into it, he looked around him. Mike Relmn, Gray Kid, along with OCD staff sat to his left while on monitors to his right were the people of the Money Fight, Cassettes Won’t Listen and Kid Loco (whose transmission looked smoky at best.) All Rob could think was, “how the fuck did I get into this?”
