Moving Units Live in Los Angeles with Dead ’60s

How many shows do you attend that rock the fuck out, while no one seems to be dancing but you and that mulleted guy who drank too much Budweiser? One could never point such a finger at a Moving Units’ show, where the dance-heavy beats mix with dark progressive rock to get asses pogo-ing, shaking, and moshing like it’s Olympia circa 1993 all over again.

It’s rare to find a band with such an enthusiastic middle-sized following as the Units, who bring a funkdified, diverse bunch of ages to each show. Youthful enthusiasm and high expectations filled the historic confines of the Avalon on November 16th, as the Units debuted brand-new songs, along with a relatively recent, yet beloved oeuvre.

Bauhaus in Cleveland, Ohio at The Agora Theater 11/19/05

Bauhaus, the original gothfathers, performed on their Near the Atmosphere tour with their original lineup; Peter Murphy on vocals, Daniel Ash on Guitars and Saxophone, David J on Bass, and Kevin Haskins on Drums. While certainly not the largest venue in Cleveland, the highly anticipated concert was well attended. The audience was a mature group of both young and old and was somewhat reserved throughout most of the close to two hour concert, perhaps mesmerized by the very extraordinary and sophisticated light show, (but according to Julz Finley, it proved to be challenging to get a good shot with all the strobes and fog).

The night of October 20th at El Rey packed in so much sugary cuteness, I imagine the crowd full of young 20-somethings woke up with new cavities. Anticipating the raucous cheerleading funk squad, The Go Team, the former movie-house was brimming with sights from ironic whiteboy afros and vintage dresses to fanboy Danny Masterson.
