Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players US tour & DVD Release

If you’re thinking,”Trachtenwha…?” The Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players have been self-defined as “an indie-vaudeville-conceptual-art-rock-slidshow band.” The band is comprised of three family members: Jason, his wife and his 12-year-old daughter Rachel. Jason sings quirky indie rock songs that have been meticulously crafted to jive with slides collected from estate sales, garage sales, and thrift stores that transform the lives of complete strangers into unique rock opuses.

“When i first saw the band, i said, well, what a cool concept. I wanted the life of either the kid or the dad. Either one. Either one is fine with me. All they need to do is start making their own honey, and that’s it, they’re done.” –David Cross

The DVD is currently available. Check out the trailer here.

Cult of the Psychic Fetus Concert Review and Photos by Famed Rock Photog Julz Finley

At Yorktown Lanes
July 29, 2006
Parma, Ohio

Cult of the Psychic Fetus are a local band in the Cleveland Metro area that has national appeal. I had never heard of them prior to living here, but have learned they have made quite a name for themselves in a more underground circuit. They put on a show in Parma, Ohio (a Southern suburb of Cleveland) at a bowling alley of all places, but that proved to be a pretty good idea as the party room/banquet hall at this venue was well-equipped for bands to play at, and hopefully they book more in the future. The beer was cheap, the music was good, it had air conditioning, and lots of room (it was better for a concert than most of the concert venues in Cleveland, most lack space and ventilation or regulated utilities!)

New G. Love mp3’s

The new G. Love album, Lemonade, was released this Tuesday on Brushfire. This is G. Love’s 7th album, and who knew one man could be so serious about lemonade:

“The whole thing about lemonade for me was when I first set out from Philly to make it in the music world I went up to Boston, and I would just sit on the front porch of my place after playing the streets or practicing and make myself a big pitcher of lemonade. It just symbolized old time porch loungin’ for that’s where I did a lot of my shedding and writing. It was so simple and great, I said, if I ever get a record deal I’m going to get Lemonade tattooed on my arm.”

Electric Six Concert Review and Photos by Famed Rock Photog Julz Finley

Live at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Cleveland, Ohio
7/26/06

Every summer (at least since I’ve been living in Cleveland) the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame puts on a free concert series called “Summer in the City” and usually every 2 to 3 weeks in the summer on a Wednesday night, they showcase a few bands to the public, rain or shine (outdoors if clear, indoors if raining… so the show always goes on).

This year much to my surprise, the Electric Six from Detroit were one of the freebie shows booked. I’ve wanted to see this band for a while now, but every time they come to town, something in my personal life seems to prohibit that from happening. Luckily this time, I prevailed, and was able to catch a really great show.
